Cedar Rapids Linn County Attorney Denver Dillard criticized the State Auditor's Office for not contacting law enforcement sooner about claims that former Heritage Area Agency on Aging director Tom Miskimen made 23284 in improper disbursements. The report cites questionable practices and 60370 in imprudent uses of agency funds including home improvements and payments to the Iowa Association of Area Agencies on Aging, where Miskimen was treasurer, with 7604 to the group and 6400 issued to himself. The audit covers 1993 to 1999. Miskimen resigned in 1999 and now works in Texas.

Property tax rollback rises slightly for 2001 in Iowa

Iowa Department of Revenue set the residential tax rate at 56.2651 percent for 2001, up from 54.852 but near the 56.4789 percent two years earlier. Farm buildings tax at the same rate, farm land at 100 percent, and commercial, industrial, rail, and utility properties remain without rollback.
