Cedar Rapids wins attention of Eastman Kodak as Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. emerges as a key player in a seven month effort to land a biotechnology manufacturing facility. Lee Liu of IE Industries notes Kingsport’s large Kodak plant inspired the Cedar Rapids bid. Kodak eyed an advance team after initial data was shared in May 1987.
Theresa Jackson 40 was found guilty of child abuse for causing her 17-year-old daughter Tina Manci to kill herself after forcing her into a nude dancing stall. Jackson was also convicted of procuring a sexual performance by a child and forgery. The judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation.
Polk Elementary in Cedar Rapids is not likely to close, says Polk’s fate remains under review as Superintendent Stephen Daeschner plans to recommend Polk stay open at the November 9 school board meeting. Enrollment trends and potential all day kindergarten requirements are cited as factors keeping Polk in use amid discussions of other local schools.
