OECD reports US energy imports drop in first eight months
The OECD notes a 12.5 percent fall in US energy imports for January through August compared with 1977, driven by July and August declines. Higher nuclear and hydro output and the coal strike's end reduced oil and gas needs in Q2, while six month totals show a 3.6 percent rise in overall US energy consumption. Crude imports rose sharply in late September and early October, and gasoline use climbed markedly across the OECD.
