The Florida governor warns that federal relief programs failing to remove nonresidents will be escorted out of the state. A columnist discusses CCC recruit flows, Townsend plan criticisms, and taxpayer protections amid national economic debates.
Washington reports that Linn county residents compelled both the CCC and WPA to continue work on the Cedar River dam at Palisades state park near Mount Vernon. The CCC camp 2722 will stay to complete the dam and park improvements, with WPA grants of 68 572 dollars funding landscape work and recreation facilities.
Army officers delayed orders to continue CCC at Palisades Camp though noon Wednesday decision existed. From 176 men, 139 remained Tuesday night with 37 transferred to Oakville and Solon, while 7 to OsKaloosa, 34 to Knoxville, and 6 to Solon.
Ted Balko of Redwood Falls defend his state crown at Heron Lake Minnesota with a state record 28 217 bushels husked in 80 minutes. Carl Bly of Rock County took runner up with 2814 bushels. Hans Hansen of South Sioux City won the Dakota county title by husking 27 47 bushels on the Jack Orr farm near Homer.
An explosion at the Tateyama ice plant in Japan killed 21 workers and injured 60, police and witnesses said. The blast occurred early Thursday as oxygen tanks ruptured, triggering a large fire and extensive damage. Local officials launched rescue and inquiry efforts.
Des Moines AP L S Hill Iowa WPA administrator Wednesday night allotted $56 645 for eight projects in eight counties providing work for 343 more people. The total cost of completing all projects is estimated at 3 619 596. Projects include Howard county farm to market road excavation and Jefferson county Fairfield parks landscaping among others.
Cedar Rapids reports two WPA projects cleared to begin Thursday and Friday with more awaiting approval for Monday. Allen Wallen, WPA engineer, told City Engineer Frank Young Cedar Rapids that the North Western quarry project will start with thirty men Thursday. Behrens heard fifty men will report to the courthouse Friday to start Linn county Chain Lakes work.
Federal Judge Charles A. Dewey had excused two farmers for being too busy on their farms. A third would-be juror, W. D. Hochstetter of Kalona, asked to be relieved, answering banker when asked for his occupation. The judge reacted with surprise but allowed him to serve or be excused.
Gordon Westcott 31 known as cinema villain died at Cedars of Lebanon hospital from brain hemorrhage after his horse fell and crushed his skull during a polo game. He had been in an oxygen tent and never regained consciousness.

Federal Judge Charles Az Dewey fined Turner and three associates in a corn hog conspiracy case. Lawrence Becks, George Low Moor, and Jack Kenyon each received $500 fines. Fred Fanning drew 30 days in jail and two years on parole. Turner allegedly misrepresented hog production to gain larger benefits.
Des Moines AP Walter Maley first assistant attorney general conferred with Linn county attorney King Thompson on the state's case in Harold M. Cooper of Marshalltown appeal. Hearing set for Nov 19 in the state supreme court. Thompson declined to present the state's argument but will attend in official capacity.
America's largest bombing plane the Boeing Flying Fortress crashed during Army Air Corps tests at Wright Field. Major P P Hill and three official pilots were aboard. Four others injured as engines faltered and the bomber tumbled from 200 feet, bursting into flames before crashing upright.
Agriculture officials outlined a plan to finance corn loans up to 150 million dollars through the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. Loans target field corn stored in cribs and graded No 3 or better, with maturity around July 1936. The move follows a strong nationwide vote favoring the corn hog program in a referendum.
Iowa Department of Agriculture will conduct instruction schools for corn sealers and warehouse board members under the 1935 loan program starting November 18. Five or six schools will be held in different sections of the state. An order for sealing adepts is being prepared to start the Town program by December 1.
Two inmates from the state prison at Fort Madison will be brought to Sioux City to testify in the trial of Attorney General Edward L. O Connor on gambling conspiracy charges. Bert Rollinger of LeMars and John Lavery of Sioux City are ordered to appear. Rollinger is under sentence for impersonating an officer and Lavery for safe cracking. The trial opens November 5 with a change of venue motion under advisement.
