Secret Barbados trip shows Congress with lobbyists
ABC News footage captured Rep. Dan Rostenkowski leading 33 members on a taxpayer funded Caribbean trip to Barbados Brazil Argentina and Costa Rica. The group spent seven hours in meetings while the rest was beach leisure with lobbyists from insurance computer and toiletries firms. Per diem costs totaled 1176 dollars per member and Barbados costs around 42000 dollars. The trip sparked criticism from some constituents though defenders called it legitimate and noted it aided the Caribbean Basin Initiative.
