Ike opens Abilene museum for war mementos in 1954
Near Ike's hometown Abilene Kansas a museum to house the president's war trophies and mementoes is nearing completion. The Eisenhower foundation builds the structure and plans a public opening in 1954. The cornerstone was laid June 4 1952 and that day Ike also launched his campaign for the Republican nomination. A separate note mentions a revised three cent trucking centennial stamp replacing a closely resembling real model with a composite vehicle.
