Rail executives predicted the federal government could offer about 1 billion dollars in easy term rehabilitation loans as part of a 5 billion stimulus for national defense. Miss Mary Edith Lackner 43 of Cincinnati died when her airplane crashed in flames in a cornfield near Williamson West Virginia after taking off from Cleveland en route to Cincinnati She was national secretary of the Ninety nines and had attended a Ninety niner meeting in Cleveland Her parents said she phoned them to meet her at Cincinnati airport at 5 pm.
In Chicago a panel of government trust busters plans to seek indictments against 100 or more prominent dairy figures as part of the milk monopoly probe. The special federal grand jury, led by Thurman Arnold, will review the list and has already heard 100+ witnesses and pored over extensive records from dairy groups and health authorities.
Four people including former Hot Springs police officials were convicted by a federal court jury of conspiring to harbor Alvin Karpis the kidnapper and ex public enemy No. 1. They received two years' imprisonment each. The defendants were Joe Wakelin Herbert Akers Cecil Brock and Grace Goldstein Karpis. They were accused of aiding and concealing Karpis while he hid in Hot Springs.
The Earl and Countess of Carrick were robbed at their London residence soon after returning from New Jersey where they wed. Burglars took a quantity of the countess jewelry during the early Saturday break in.

German authorities halted the mass deportation of Polish Jews pending Monday negotiations on the status of Polish citizens in Germany. About 20 000 Jews had been moved to border areas with 12 000 returned to Poland. Polish Red Cross aid arrived as deportations paused amid the tense border situation.
Earl Minninger 17 and sister Dorothy 13 of Cedar Rapids were injured when a car driven by Earl left the road while turning from a sideroad to Beverly road south of Edgewood No 2 schoolhouse. They were taken to Mercy hospital with minor head scratches and shoulder injuries.
Pat Crowe once famed kidnapper and 1906 acquitted felon died penniless at 79 in New York. He who declared himself an enemy of society preached against crime on sidewalks after a notorious manhunt for the Cudahy kidnapping. Crowe’s life spanned Bowery destitution to late era preaching.
Davenport report notes Pat Crowe died in New York on Saturday. He was born and raised along the Wapsipinicon river in Scott county. His parents, who Crowe often visited in Iowa, are buried near Long Grove, about 15 miles north of Davenport.
W9CQY, a Chicago amateur radio station, said it contacted Henry J L Walther, 24, whose mother Alice Walther, 65, is dying and wishes to see him. Walther says it would take at least a month to reach Chicago by land, with airplanes as the only faster option, but his sister Viola says the family cannot finance the trip and is seeking offers from private parties or transportation companies to help him out.
Efforts to locate Leslie O. Ross, recent resigning member of the Iowa parole board, proved futile with whereabouts unknown. A report placed him in New Mexico. he has not been in Sidney since mid summer. Mrs. Ross, former deputy clerk for ten years, now works in the AAA office.
Cedar Rapids experienced continued fair and moderate fall conditions Saturday night. Temperatures fell from a daytime high of 62 to 50 at 7 30 and 46 at 11 pm on the Chambers Inskeep recorder. The daily low settled around 43 between 3 and 8 am.
