First Corn Of 1934 Arrives In Cedar Rapids Market

The first carload of 1934 shelled corn reached Cedar Rapids from Badger, graded No. 3 yellow with 49 percent damage and 165 percent moisture. A second car from Illinois Central, for William Bell Grain, also graded No. 3 with 172 percent moisture and 6 percent damage. Ramsey notes late arrival, limited new-crop shipments, and potential use for feed as old corn remains plentiful. Prices recently fell from about 70 to 65 cents, with a possible 20 to 25 cent bid lift to bring new corn to market.
