Rail funding boosts Iowa City Riverfront Crossings plan
The federal 230 million for a Chicago to Iowa City passenger line lifts plans to redevelop the Riverfront Crossings district, aiming for a dense pedestrian friendly neighborhood with housing and commerce around the circa 1898 depot to be purchased by the city. U S Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced the system at a Thursday Iowa City event.

Iowa credit unions post strong growth despite crisis

Franklin Hobbs II, now 86, found a photo of a girl and a child's drawing in a fallen Japanese soldier's pocket on Iwo Jima. He later traveled to Japan to reunite the items with Chie Takekawa, the daughter who drew the picture, fulfilling a decades old wish.
