UNI student Palin impersonation goes viral during McCain rally

Eva Andersen a UNI sophomore in Cedar Falls wore a Palin style hair poof and glasses and briefly joined the stage audience at a Sunday rally. Photographers captured her moment and footage circulated online gaining national attention. Andersen says she was only having fun and not making a political statement.

Composting drives environment friendly yard waste plan

In Cedar Rapids Hiawatha and Marion a new Linn County rule bans leaf burning within half a mile from these cities effective Jan 1. Residents must use leaf pickup or curbside vacuum service next year. Health officials and the Solid Waste Agency urge composting as a safe alternative to burning.

Leaf drop offs and curbside leaf programs in several Iowa cities

Linn County residents may drop yard waste at the compost facility 2250 A St SW for $15 per ton with a $5 minimum and free compost. Cedar Rapids crews offer yard waste in Yardy carts or paper bags with street collection days through Nov 21. Marion and Hiawatha provide free yard waste drops and curbside pickup on select dates.

Demolition Opens City Flood Cleanup on Fourth Street

Wreckers began tearing down the first of 71 flood damaged homes in Cedar Rapids at 1229 Fourth St SE. The city hired crew started the demolition after delays in bidding for the program to remove the most damaged structures from June’s historic flood. Loren Snell, the engineering construction manager, explained the process Tuesday.

Coralville Death Breaks as Boy Found Dead in Northeast Iowa

Two year old Seth Kehoe of Coralville died from sharp force injuries to the neck in a homicide ruled after autopsy. Iowa medical examiner John Kraemer declined to release further details while authorities investigated with the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office and the state Division of Criminal Investigation.
