Vote on Linn County road embargo to protect Honey Grove Road
Linn County Supervisors will vote Thursday on an embargo to shield Honey Grove Road SW from damage caused by heavy traffic from nearby Hennessey Quarry on Old River Road SW. If approved, it would change how the county uses road embargoes, which can close roads or restrict weights for up to 90 days. The quarry, operated by Bruening Rock Products of Decorah, began operations recently after a 1988 conditional use permit. Engineer Jerry Nelson notes seal coat breaks and rutting from truck traffic, with local resident Jack Lindstrom estimating 2000 to 3000 weekly trips and describing surface deterioration near Highway 30.
