Are Chapels at State Institutions Illegal
Iowa Attorney General Richard Turner was asked if state institutions may keep chapels without violating the state constitution. The issue centers on funding and legal authority as Rep. William Gannon argues that an appropriation for Camp Dodge’s chapel acted as a veto of legislation. The debate cites several chapels already in use and questions whether maintenance is permissible under constitutional and statutory rules.
