A federal court jury in Denver awarded John E. Gegner of Stockport Iowa 300000 against Frank J. Yaussi of Fort Collins Colorado in a Cirque Mining Co dispute over 320 acres and mineral rights north of Fort Collins. Gegner contended Yaussi kept plans secret and breached a blood brother pact.

Larry Herbert Lehman 36 of Waterloo dies in a trench cave-in while Lehman Construction Co works on a sewer line in the 2900 block of Lafayette Street. He was alone in a 20 foot deep hole when sides collapsed shortly before 1 p.m. Police and emergency crews freed him after about an hour. he was pronounced dead at the scene.
