Buffalo report says Dr C C Furnas of Curtiss Wright disclosed speeds over 1400 miles per hour already flown by special experimental devices. He predicted commercial aircraft could reach such speeds in about 25 years. Tests described as at low altitudes with undisclosed flying devices.
Dr Furnas describes research on safe pilot ejection from supersonic aircraft. He notes a human would die instantly without protected structures and a parachute. He cites 1500 mph speeds where skin temperature can reach 405 degrees and mentions efforts to improve air conditioning for high speed flying.
