Cedar Rapids Country Club plans two events for members with a carnival atmosphere. A dinner dance is scheduled for November 14 inspired by Dad's Day weekend at the University of Iowa. The entertainment committee led by Mrs. Edwin H. Wadsworth aims for a festive night with confetti.
Thirty members of chapter GM of the P. E. O. attended a meeting Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Scott McIntyre 359 Park Terrace SE. Mrs. M. S. Hallman reviewed I Am the Fox by Winifred Van Etten. Mrs. Allan G. Shurman assisted.
Miss Martha Trewin daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold R Trewin 31950 Fourth avenue SE pledged to Alpha Phi sorority at the University of Arizona Tucson where she is a junior student. She completed her first two years at Cornell College Mount Vernon.
Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Grupe of Chicago have returned home after spending the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ogden at 2033 Fourth Avenue SE.
Mrs. George E. Beattie will sponsor a regular contract bridge game Wednesday at 1 30 p.m. at her home 315 Nineteenth street SE.
Mrs. George P. Mithl of Cleveland has left for home after a three week visit with her mother Mrs. Myrtle Giffen Jones at 1816 Fifth Avenue SE.
Miss Florence Diers and Mrs Richard Bruch hosted a linen shower at 399 Twenty second street SE for the bride Mrs Edward Filipi formerly Miss Lucille Stodola. Prizes in bridge went to Miss Bertha Ainsworth, Mrs Ralph Schillig, and Mrs Tillie Oheron.
Mrs. J A Shepard hosted a miscellaneous shower Friday night for her daughter Loretta ahead of a November 8 wedding to Kenneth Deal son of Mr and Mrs Robert Deal of 623 B avenue NE. Sixteen guests attended with prizes awarded to Beulah Detwiler Clara Moore Hilda Deal and Jean Williamson.

Tyler study group will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. with Mrs. Jean Wiechert at 503 Twelfth Avenue SE to discuss Parent Teacher Association activities and local school matters.
Big Springs P. T. A. study group meets at the school Wednesday at 2 p.m. Franklin P. T. A. also meets Wednesday at 2 30 at the school.
Roosevelt P. T. A. will convene at 2 30 in the school auditorium. Miss Elizabeth McIntosh of the Public Health Nursing association will speak. Miss Addie Zika will recount her trip to Canada to visit the Dionne quintuplets.
Mrs. I. E. Jackson and Mrs. E. A. Johnson hosted a large luncheon Tuesday in the Roosevelt room at the Roosevelt hotel. Yellow and rust chrysanthemums graced the tables with Mrs Ruth Ebling Massey the contralto and Mrs Lucy Ambroz providing song accompaniment. Annie Laura Davidson offered readings during the afternoon.
The Needlework Guild invites all to its fall luncheon Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Roosevelt hotel. Mrs. E. P. Boynton will take reservations, or call the hotel at 4111. Supplies will be distributed and final instructions given for the ingathering November 10 to 12.
Mrs H K Painter of Minneapolis Minn will address Cedar Rapids A A U W members on Widening Horizons Wednesday evening at 1801 Second Avenue SE. Painter is Mount Holyoke graduate and longtime A A U W worker who led the Minneapolis branch and Minnesota state groups and authored Minnesota Grows Up.
Mr and Mrs John Abraham announce the marriage of their daughter Rose to Aldrich Marek. The ceremony took place October 24 at the Little Brown Church near Nashua with Rev William Kent officiating. The couple will reside at 289 Wilson Avenue SW after a brief wedding trip.
Mr and Mrs Jode Rains were surprised at a Sunday party for their thirty six anniversary held at Joyland ballroom. About sixty guests attended including several from out of town.
The Cedar Rapids Woman's club unanimously passed a resolution urging the city council to ban the sale and use of fireworks, following Des Moines action. The measure cites reducing injuries and deaths, especially among children, and requests similar city action.
Members of the Lady Luck club entertained their husbands and friends at a dinner Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Clauson. Prizes were won by Erma Sisam, Bruce Clauson, Genevieve Jarboe, Clyde Miller, Florence Usher, Le Roy Smith and Mrs Earl Rutan. Others present included Florence Robins, Nettie Sisam, Curtis Hunt, George Davis, Cecil Koon, Earl Rutan, Mrs LeRoy Smith and Carl Jensen of Cedar Falls.
Misses Agatha and Nelle Cherry of 1232 Third Avenue SE return Monday from a four month journey through England Scotland Holland Belgium Switzerland and France. They spent two days in New York City and a week in Chicago as guests of Mr and Mrs Walter Cherry.
Mr and Mrs Morris Sanford hosted a dinner in Mount Vernon in honor of Edward Weismiller a Cornell college sophomore and Yale Younger Poets award winner His book The Deer Comes Down is due for release Tuesday Attending were Clyde Tull Harriet Porter Paul Engle Jay G Sigmund Doris Garner Lois Metcalf Jack Edwards and Ted Sealy Paul Engle won the Yale award in 1934.
Cedar Rapids residents listed to attend the fifty Ninth session of the grand chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star opening in Davenport. Informal 7 30 p m Tuesday at the Masonic temple with formal opening at 9 p m. headquarters at the Blackhawk hotel.

Miss Mary Gertrude Fox daughter of Glen and Mary Fox of 607 Seventh Street SE married Hugh L Rick son of Mr and Mrs Hugh E Rick of 649 Thirty-fourth Street NE Monday morning at Immaculate Conception Church. The bride wore box wood green satin with orchids and rosebuds. Attendants included Dorothy Rick and John Kelsh. A wedding breakfast followed at the Fox home. The couple will reside at 649 Thirty-fourth Street NE until their new home on Thirty third Street NE is ready after a trip to Chicago.
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary to Hanford post No 5 will entertain junior members at a costume party Friday at 7 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum. Beta Phi Alpha Mothers' Club entertained the college chapter alumnae and sorority patronesses at a tea Sunday in Beta Belfry honoring the new patroness Mrs. Frederick Schwartz. Decorations were gold and green. Mrs. W. C. Schrodermier assisted by Mrs. Charles Burianek and Mrs. Harley Breed in arrangements.
Mrs G I Scott held a farewell gathering at 412 Seventh Avenue SW for Mrs Katherine Keyes Elkin. Mrs Elkin departs Saturday to join husband Russell F Elkin in Chicago. Bridge was played at three tables with prizes to Mrs Carl Goodwin Mrs Jerome Paul Mrs H G Fussell Mrs S D Keyes and Mrs George C Keyes. Refreshments and a departing gift for Mrs Elkin were noted.
Mrs Jack Frew of 620 Thirty Fourth Street SE returned Monday after spending several days visiting her sister-in-law Mrs Iva Leist in Geneva Illinois.
Mr. and Mrs. I. M. Cripps and grandson Merle Smith together with Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Knight and their son Wesley left Tuesday for Hibbing Minnesota after several days with Mr. and Mrs. Clayton P. Smith of 125 Thirty third street NE.
Attendance reached fifty seven at the Camp Fire girls training course second session held Monday night at the Montrose hotel. Mrs. Wells C. Peck outlined leader responsibilities while Miss Muriel MacIntosh discussed nature crafts and printing techniques.

Hodgin took second in north south positions, with additional honors for Mrs. T. E. Taylor and Mrs. H. J. Robertson in north south and Mrs. F. D. Wasson with Mrs. Longueville in east west.
Miss Mary Stark returned to Chicago Sunday after spending a week with her parents Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Stark on Vinton Road NW.
J Leeds Barrell of Gwynedd Valley Pennsylvania arrives at Rye Beach New Hampshire claiming the title of New England's oldest summer visitor. He has spent 53 consecutive summers there and three of his five children were born at the seaside spot.
Mar ion hostess Marjorie Albaught led the Rural Young People club at a hard times party Monday with a ghost tour and Halloween games. Refreshments were served. Mrs. Olive McConaughey of Xenia Ohio was visiting in the W T Jackson home and travels to Cedar Rapids Niles Michigan and Indianapolis before returning home.
Mrs. F. B. Cornelius is visiting her sister in Mount Carroll Illinois.
Mr and Mrs James Wallace visited Ames for business ties and meeting local officials during their trip they explored opportunities and discussed potential collaborations with area firms.
Mr. and Mrs. George Kolda Sr of Waubeek entertained Sunday with guests including Mr. and Mrs. Donald Vulicheck and son from Prescott Arizona, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Vulicheck, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Simitz, Joe Velenda and Alice Simitz of Cedar Rapids, and Mr. and Mrs. George Kolda Jr and family of Marion. The Arizona visitors also stayed at the George Kolda Jr home in Marion.
Funeral services for Mrs. John Oliver were conducted Tuesday morning at St Josephs Catholic Church with Rev T J McElliott officiating. Pallbearers included Ed Mullaly Harold Mullaly James Larkin and William Ryan. She was buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery Cedar Rapids. Mrs Clyde Randolph of Dawson and Mrs Mary Brown of Perry attended.
Karl Kendall R N Fitzgerald Roscoe Blinks and Carl Michel attended the Chamber of Commerce get-together dinner in Cedar Rapids Monday in a social gathering of business leaders.
Honor guests attended a recent contest where Miss Lula Toms sang a solo. Refreshments were served to about twenty five women including Mrs. Maude Ogden of Clinton visiting nieces Misses Alta and Elva Emerson.
Marion chapter No. 183 O. EF. S. held its monthly Kensington gathering in the Masonic temple. Tables were set for cards, followed by supper served to about ninety people by a committee led by Mrs. W. R. Lange.
A group of young folk from the Oxford club of the Methodist church met to organize. They named themselves the Oxford Masquers and planned winter plays and playlets. Next meeting is set for three weeks at Louise Cippera’s home. fourteen attended the get together.
Dorothy Haffa will speak about her recent visit in Russia as the Sorosis club meets Thursday at 7 30 p m at Bess Busby home. Mrs Verto Reichert is in charge of the program.
