Hogs Fall as Market Reports Show Wide Price Swings

In Chicago trading, butcher hogs dropped up to 50 cents amid the heaviest supply since May. Slaughter cattle and calves posted mixed moves with steers steady to 25 cents lower and heifers steady to 25 cents lower, while sheep and lambs showed firmness in some classes.

Corydon Teen Dies After Two Month coma

Chuck Van Winkle aged 16 of Corydon died after two months unconscious following a one car crash south of Corydon on August 28. He was hospitalized in Des Moines and here as his mother, a local clinic employee, kept a bedside vigil.

Tenth Burglary Reported in Oelwein Tonight

The Gazette reports this city’s tenth burglary in five weeks occurred Monday at a pres tavern. Police say burglars took $50 in change, nine silver dollars, and unspecified merchandise. There have been ten burglaries and six attempted burglaries in the period.
