In Chicago trading, butcher hogs dropped up to 50 cents amid the heaviest supply since May. Slaughter cattle and calves posted mixed moves with steers steady to 25 cents lower and heifers steady to 25 cents lower, while sheep and lambs showed firmness in some classes.
Des Moines reports Monday receipts at 90 000 with weekend actual 39 000 and week age 88 000 year age 76 000. Moderately active market and prices weak to 25 lower. Hog weights ranged from No 1 200 220 lbs at 12.00 13.00 to 240 270 lbs at 11.50 12.45 with various No 2 and No 3 classes. sows weights 270 330 lbs to 400 550 lbs priced 10.10 12.25 and 8.60 10.75.
New York stocks rose solidly late Monday following a strong rally on renewed hopes of an end to the steel strike. Volume was about 3.5 million shares as key issues advanced 1 to 3 points.

Kenneth K. Kinsey an 18 year old University of Iowa freshman was fined $50 in police court for reckless driving after his 1959 model car crashed through a hedge in front of Virgil Hanchers home. The car was chased six blocks by a police car before Kinsey lost control and fled with four other occupants. he was identified by registration.
