Cedar Rapids selective service boards will send eight men to Fort Des Moines for induction Sunday. The group includes one volunteer under age Francis Koneczny and his brother John C Keneeny, plus Leonard Sterns Charles Breneman Henry D Vail and three from No 1 board David A Baer Quentin DeNio and Claire A Porter. They depart by bus at 1 p m. Sunday. The Marion board will send three men Monday Melvin A Ritze Edward W Daniels and William R Sager Bruce R Bowdish will be inducted from Orofino Idaho.
Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden said Britain would overcome geographical difficulties in fulfilling the immensely formidable task of providing promised aid to Russia. The remark came during a Manchester briefing as wartime support was framed as essential to Allied effort.

Fitchburg Massachusetts police arrested Bedard Wolsiewick, 36, on abduction charges after two month old Kenneth A. McLean Jr. was found unharmed in a cottage at Lake Whalom park. The infant wore the same clothes and was returned to his father at the police station.
Two pedestrians were struck by cars Friday evening but sustained only minor injuries. Walter Norton, 39, of 118 Tenth Avenue SW, suffered scalp wounds and lacerations after being hit by Arleigh Shepherdson, 49, of 1207 Second Street SW at 6 10 p m. Norton was at a gas tank when the collision occurred. A second pedestrian, unnamed, was struck by Leo Martin, 23, of 632 Ninth Street SE at 6 30 p m and claimed no injuries. Martin reported turning left from Third Street SW into Seventh Avenue.
