CHUNGRING China UP The U S gunboat Tutuila of the Yangtze patrol was severely damaged when a 400 pound rock, dislodged during a four hour Japanese air raid, struck the ship. Two British steamers were hit, and 42 Japanese planes bombed Chungking, causing 70 casualties near the embassy zone.
VICHY France AP Maynard Barnes, American chargé d affaires in Paris, was reported Friday to have been arrested October 21 while seeing friends off at Austerlitz station and held for two hours for allegedly speaking English.

Jimmy Chase twelve son of Mr and Mrs W T Chase of 711 C Avenue NE was injured after darting from in front of a parked car and struck by an eastbound auto. He sustained facial and wrist abrasions a broken tooth and was taken to St Luke's hospital. His condition improved to good by Friday.
