AEGON to Sell Canadian Life Unit to Wilton RE for 535.5 Million
AEGON agrees to sell its Canadian life insurance operations to Wilton RE for 535.5 million dollars. The deal, expected to close in Q1 2015, will incur a book loss around 1.1 billion and comes as AEGON redoubles debt reduction via bond redemptions. CEO Alex Wynendts says the move improves return on equity by 40 basis points and keeps Canada customers with competitive middle market options. Wilton RE reports 14.5 billion in assets and 1.4 billion in annual operating revenues as of Sept 30.
