Wall Street reels as Digital Equipment reports weak earnings
Wall Street faces renewed strain as Digital Equipment Corp warns of sharply lower quarterly earnings due to weak PC shipments. The stock plunged from above 100 to 67 in three days, wiping out much of recent gains and triggering broad tech selloffs amid high interest rates. The broader market fell with the Dow and Nasdaq amid lingering rate concerns, even as GDP rose 7.9 percent in Q3. Analysts note bonds offer higher yields, dampening stock appeal, though some expect rates to ease gradually.

Bond registration shows smooth transition in muni markets
Federal law requiring state and local governments to track bondholders has operated for over three months with surprisingly smooth adherence. Analysts caution it is early to gauge penalties on small issuers and whether costs will exclude them from credit markets.
