Iowa State Auditor Threatens Probe Over Traveling Library
State Auditor Lloyd Smith said he may dispatch auditors to list all publications in the traveling library if the controversy over the Iowa Executive Council stopping the Berkeley Barb subscription continues. He argued assessing both left and right wing papers would guard against censorship while urging broader representation. The council had voted to end the $6 yearly Barb subscription, facing accusations of censorship amid concerns about the publication's content including an article on a possible assassination of President Nixon.
