Clinton defeated Jefferson 27 to 6 in a high penalty game as River Kings quarterback Waldorf ran for 2 touchdowns and threw 2 more, while Clinton receivers Taylor and Kramer connected on passes. Jefferson struggled on offense with a lone first half score and endured 28 penalties split between the teams.

West Central Cruises to 33-0 Win Over Fayette

Maynard West Central captured its seventh win of the season and sixth straight Upper Iowa conference victory by hammering Fayette 33-0 on Friday night. Chuck Trotter led scoring with three touchdowns on 23, 11 and 3 yard runs and also kicked two extra points.

Sumner Crushes Valley 32 20 in Upset Upper Iowa Battle

Sumner defeated Valley High 32 to 20 in Elgin for fifth place, capitalizing on four enemy fumbles and key recoveries. Roland Leyh scored twice, Eugene Leyh added a 13 yard TD from Dennis Schuldt, Jim Burke returned a fumble for a score, and Dale Fridley added a one yard plunge to seal the win.

West Union North High defeated Elkader 13-0 as Dick Darnell and Ron Beerman each ran for short touchdowns. Two North High scores were negated by clipping penalties, including a 52 yard pass play. Game featured cautious offense and key yardage by North High backs.

Late Tipton Triumph Hands Marion 7-0 in Whamac Battle

Tipton quarterback Bill Donohue scored from one foot on a late keeper with two seconds left to give the Tigers a 7-0 win over winless Marion in a tense WHAC game. Marion threatened late after drives to Tipton’s 11 and 18 but were denied on a goal line pass drop and a crucial fourth down stop. Injuries hampered Marion as four regulars sat out the contest while Tipton's defense clamped down in the final period.

Marengo Stays in Title Contention

Marengo held first in the South Iowa Cedar conference by defeating Montezuma 7 to 0 at home Friday night. Mike Cooney sprinted 56 yards on a punt return for the lone touchdown as Marengo built a strong defense, allowing just 3 yards on the ground and 30 through the air. The Wildcats totaled 181 rushing yards but failed to add another score.

New London routs Univ High 36 to 6 in Friday game

New London beat U High of Iowa City 36-6 to run its record to 4-2. John McKinnon exploded for three touchdown runs of 35 22 and 51 yards while Herb Phillips added two rushing TDs of 5 and 49 yards. Mark Tuttle scored the lone U High TD on a 3 yard run.

Keota crushed Lone Tree 59 7 in Keota Wash league play to set a title showdown with English Valley next week. English Valley already shares the championship. Iowa City powered to a 39 to 7 victory at Kingston Stadium overpowering Washington. Speedy Mid-Prairie Tops Prairie 20-0 in Homecoming

Mid-Prairie kept its undefeated string at six games with a 20-0 homecoming victory over Prairie. Ken Stockett opened scoring with a 27 yard run after an interception, Don Debler added a 5 yard TD in the second period, and Stockett finished with a 1 yard plunge in the fourth as the Golden Hawks totaled 262 rushing yards. Debler added a 34 yard reception on the march that set up the second score, Te Bockhorst kicked the extra point, and Stockett and Debler were the game's offensive keys.

Williamsburg captured third place in the South Iowa Cedar conference by beating Toledo 20 to 0 on Friday night. Don Doehrmann produced the night’s longest play with an 82 yard scoring return off an interception while Tom Gerard and Jim Lortz added touchdowns on a 13 yard run and a 56 yard interception return respectively.
