Fire loss at Iowa Chemistry building totals 384 thousand

Special to The Gazette reports University of Iowa officials informed the Iowa legislature that the Oct. 7 fire in the Chemistry building caused property losses and replacement costs totaling 384 144.50 dollars. Rebuild costs are now estimated at 187 500 with equipment at 177 530.50 and cleanup at 17 102, the report notes.

Dr Charles Geschichter of Georgetown University Medical Center announced a synthetic anti asthmatic treatment aiming to be safe cheap and effective. In 285 cases including 155 children and 80 adults over 40 only 2.5 5 and 10 percent failed in each group with a quarter rendered symptom free for two to four years after completing therapy. Digitalis is advised for patients with heart trouble and some asthmatics may need a lung relaxing drug alongside the treatment.

Blizzard strands hunters in Wyoming mountains

A blizzard dumped up to four foot drifts across roads in the northern Big Horn mountains marooning hunters. Officials said wardens were sent to round up the hunters as more than a foot fell in 36 hours. Colorado roads Mt Evans and Trail Ridge also closed.
