Fiery head-on crash near Charles City claims two lives
Iowa State Patrol reports Erin Lorraine Heffron aged 35 of Rudd and Malcom Davis aged 71 of Wautoma Wis died in an early Thursday collision west of Charles City. Heffron's car collided with a semi driven by Davis causing the truck to roll and burst into flames.

State withdraws safety citation in fatal La Porte City fire
Iowa OSHA had fined Casey's General Stores 4500 for lacking a fire alarm but withdrew the citation. State officials said fire code does not require an alarm in a store of that size. The July 6 fire killed an employee who was preparing doughnuts before the building closed.

John Arndt of Hayfield Minnesota was arrested for stealing several hundred feeder pigs from Mitchell County Iowa producers. He faces ongoing criminal conduct and first degree theft charges and is held on a 47000 dollar bond in Mower County Minnesota awaiting extradition.
