Ugandan Ebola strain traced to 1979 Sudan outbreak
Ugandan authorities identify the Ebola strain as Ebola Sudan, last seen in southern Sudan in 1979. U.S. experts speculate rebels from the Lord's Resistance Army may have introduced the virus during attacks around Gulu, 225 miles north of Kampala. At least 41 deaths and dozens more possible infections prompt WHO praise of local health workers and rapid international support.
