Farming and a Side Job Keep Iowa Farmer Going
Andy Monaghan, 58, farms 320 acres near Masonville growing corn and soybeans while also working as a heavy equipment operator for the Buchanan County Secondary Roads Department. His family and ISU economists discuss the rise of off farm work among U.S. farmers and the income and benefits it provides. Cody Monaghan, 30, plans to continue the farming legacy on the same land and may take over in the future.
