Hogs moved higher by 25 cents as trading picked up on Friday in Chicago. Cattle and sheep held steady with limited supplies ahead of the weekend, while hogs showed a stronger tone after prior declines.
Chicago reports active hog receipts with prices lifting 25 cents across mostly 180 to 280 pound butchers and sows and heavier weights scarce. Sheep receipts total 600 with native lambs steady and top bids around 31 dollars, while calves 200 head offer slaughter steers and heifers steady with select lots priced to 36.50.
Sioux City cattle slaughter classes scarce for market test with limited transactions. Sales show steers and heifers mainly in the low to mid range with top values around 29.50 to 32.00 for slaughter classes and 33.25 for mixed steers and heifers. Utility and commercial cows bring 22.50 to 27.00 while stockers and feeders are largely held for Monday.
Live poultry steady with 36 truck receipts. Cheese offerings include Twins at 40 40 2 cents per pound and Swiss grades A 41 43 cents, B 44 46 cents. Eggs weak with extras 60-69.9 percent A and over 63 cents a dozen. Potatoes arrivals 147 with U S shipments 716. Idaho russets quoted at 4 85 to 3 00, Washington russets 5.00, Wisconsin Chippewas 3.20 to 3.25, Pontiacs and Triumphs 3.60.
In New York, cheese prices hold firm with Cheddar at 41 1/2 to 43 cents and various aged grades. Butter receipts total 437 767 pounds as markets remain firm with creamery scores around AA to C. Eggs receipts reach 10 681 cases with mixed color weights and Midwest lots showing slight weakness in wholesale per dozen prices.
Cedar Rapids hog market shows no change with a small base quotation add on delivered weighed hogs. Beef prices posted for U S prime steers and yearlings across weights with ranges from 22 to 39 dollars, plus sheep and lambs prices and farm staples list grains, fruits, and vegetables with assorted regional figures.
