A long Deliberation led to a verdict of guilty in the first degree against Mrs. Tilda Miner of Olin for the murder of her husband Edward Miner two years ago. She faces a life sentence, fainted after verdict, and was jailed for treatment. The case stemmed from prior trials and a second trial ordered due to jury instructions. The defense included attorneys J. E. Remley and A. A. Cole, while County Attorney Clifford B. Paul prosecuted.
The Federal Oil Conservation Board reported to President Hoover that the American oil industry shows signs of emerging from the world economic slump. Senator George W. Norris called on labor to oppose President Hoover’s re election as he denounced administration opposition to Norris anti injunction bill. Norris defended Roosevelt and criticized Doak Richberg and the White House for claiming credit for the bill’s passage.
Edward Williamson, 56, shot and killed his son Donald, 19, while the youth slept in their Loganport Indiana home. Williamson then wounded himself in the head, possibly fatally, and is hospitalized after the pool hall proprietor undergoes a psychiatric evaluation if he survives.
Reports published in London claiming Mahatma Gandhi had a paralytic stroke were officially denied on Tuesday. The statement said Gandhi was thoroughly fit as of Monday night.
Franklin D. Roosevelt linked Alfred E. Smith to a wave of New York legislation aiding the forgotten man and woman as he campaigned for Lieut. Gov. Herbert Lehman. He noted reforms since 1910, defended Smith against GOP opposition on waterpower policy, and urged Lehman’s election with plans for White House governors conferences. Paul Cummins 22, crowned Northwestern University coeds ideal man, pledges to share housework but keep independence. Miss Ruth Wenter, winner of a Chicago radio TV contest and the campuses prettiest girl, accepts a 50 50 partnership in marriage while Cummins runs a student book store. He hails from Cedar Rapids and is a former Gazette carrier boy.

Solicitor Carlisle Higgins said he would take time to study a letter from the Reynolds family indicating they would not oppose dropping murder charges against Libby Holman Reynolds and Albert Walker if the prosecutor feels evidence is lacking.
A Chicago report shows Samuel Insull funneled more than 10 million dollars into top brokerage houses in the Midwest during the late 1920s. State's Attorney Swansee says Insull aided fortunes for Pynchon & Co and others, with Swanson now seeking the real value of his enormous investments. Indictments target Insull’s brother and others for embezzling funds from investment trusts as analysts probe the era’s vast financial turmoil.
DES MOINES AP Edward E. O Connor of Iowa City democratic nominee for attorney general was arrested after an automobile accident on a highway near Mitchellville. Reports say the car he was riding in collided with a truck belonging to White Ling wafer company. Deputy sheriffs took him into custody following the incident.
The Gazette notes a wrong time for Senator Norris of Nebraska's radio talk. A bulletin had shown 7 15 to 7 45 p m Central, but the schedule changed last minute. The Gazette will not vouch for accuracy of future radio timings.
