Multivitamins May Lower Cancer Risk in Older Men
A large study finds multivitamins modestly reduce cancer risk by about eight percent in healthy men aged 50 and older who took Centrum Silver for more than a decade. Experts caution the effect is mild and diet and lifestyle remain far more impactful. The study, presented in Anaheim and online in JAMA, followed nearly 15,000 male doctors over time, with participants randomized to real or fake vitamins.

Vitamin supplements linked to modest cancer risk reduction in older men
After about 11 years, 2,669 new cancers occurred with 17 per 1000 multivitamin users each year versus 18 per 1000 on placebo. Overall cancer risk fell about 8 percent for multivitamin users and 12 percent for other cancers, with fewer cancer deaths but results may be due to chance. Experts urge confirmation before broad recommendations.
