Iowa cities can ban bias against homosexuals says AG
The Iowa attorney general's office says cities may enact ordinances banning discrimination based on sexual orientation and marital status. The Ames proposal would cover employment housing education accommodations and services, with local rules not conflicting with state law. The AG notes state law allows local authorities to broaden protections but a referendum cannot replace council action.

Branstad Opposes Altering Iowa Sewer Fund Split

He notes Des Moines area benefits other towns downstream and urges no discrimination by size. Branstad also details 2.8 percent state budget cuts, possible travel and supply reductions, and prioritizes Capitol safety upgrades when funds allow.
