Rep. John Anderson announced he would buy TV time after the Carter Reagan debate to present his positions. He accused the League of Women Voters of neutrality bias by excluding him while Carter and Reagan signaled a one on one format in Cleveland.
President Giscard d Estaing said China agreed in principle to buy two 900 megawatt French reactors at about 1 billion dollars each, though no contract was signed. The talks covered consular postings in Shanghai and Marseille and broader trade ties with China.
Iran’s President Rajai told a crowded U N Security Council chamber that Iran would fight on, denouncing U S imperialism and accusing Iraq of open aggression with 12 divisions and hundreds of war planes. He refused hostages talks while noting a press meeting later.
The cockpit radio microphone and coiled cord hang in a tree above the silent wreckage of a Cessna 207 cargo plane northwest of Cedar Rapids airport. Investigators call the crash non survivable as two men died after takeoff and could not radio for help.
