Regents urged to suspend dorm parietal rule at Iowa campus
UNI student leaders join a debate over the University of Iowa parietal rule. They request suspension to offer privatized housing options, arguing current noise and vandalism taint dorm life and that fees fund bonds. Regents have kept the rule since 1971 amid opposition from students and officials.

Aid bill reshapes college aid eligibility in Iowa
Financial aid directors at the University of Iowa and Iowa State say the BEOG expansion will mainly aid middle and higher income families, widening eligibility to those earning up to $26 000 and increasing grant levels though individual awards still depend on cost of education and family assets. The new act increases the maximum BEOG grant from 1600 to 1800 dollars, with Iowa students often receiving less due to cost caps, while higher tuition schools may provide the full 1800 dollar grant. President Carter had proposed a flat 250 dollar grant for families earning 16 000 to 25 000, but Congress rejected it.
