United Press reports seven people died in Iowa highway accidents over the weekend with two others critically injured. Victims include John Rebisch 17 of Milwaukee and Larry Parr 14 of Des Moines among others. Police cite car crashes, driver behavior and a pedestrian fatality as causes.

Iowa Doctor W P Crane Dies of Polio in Holstein
Dr W P Crane 43 died Sunday in a Sioux City hospital from polio contracted while treating patients. He was Holstein’s only physician after Dr James Martin suffered a heart attack. A 1929 University of Iowa medical college graduate, Crane had 18 years of practice. Funeral services are Tuesday. a temporary substitute doctor is being sent to Holstein.

Anamosa announces funeral services for Donald Folken and Walter Schaefer at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Luth eran church. They died in a Langworthy area auto crash early Saturday. John L. Wolfe, also killed, had services Monday in Monticello. Folken’s survivors include his wife Betty and children, plus parents and siblings. Schaefer’s survivors include his wife Delphine and his parents.

A head on collision between freight No. 64 and the Chicago Omaha passenger No. 107 near Manilla Iowa injured 17 people. Engineer Frank Wichael Jr and Fireman W W McRunnels of Perry were hospitalized with non life threatening injuries. Freight crew also jumped clear and freight derailed five cars including a refrigerator car. Fresh Produce spilled along the right of way.

Archbishop Beckman Dies at 72 in Chicago Hospital
Archbishop Francis J. L. Beckman, 72, former head of the Dubuque archdiocese, died Sunday night in Alexian Brothers hospital Chicago. Born in Cincinnati and ordained in 1902, he served as Lincoln bishop and Omaha administrator before leading Dubuque from 1930 until retirement in 1946.
