Federal and state pressure pushes Iowa MPO to reform
Cedar Rapids officials and regional leaders faced in person warnings from federal and state highway transit authorities to revise the Corridor Metropolitan Planning Agency board decisions. A September FHWA FTA review found concerns over funding shifts including 1.4 million dollars steered to Cedar Rapids downtown skywalk, and noted long range planning changes without adequate public involvement. The MPO, with a 4 million annual federal transit budget, must adjust board makeup and funding processes to avoid losing federal funds with reviews due in June 2015.
