The Agriculture Department projects corn stocks down to 819 million bushels a year from now, the smallest Oct. 1 carryover since 1976, with soybean carryover possibly under 120 million bushels. Prices are expected to swing as feed costs rise and meat production stays high then softens in 1984.

Labor Department sued over job fund allocations
Six private groups suing the Labor Department contend using 1980 census data to allocate farmworker training funds inflates state shares by counting farm owners and managers. Plaintiffs list grants for California New England Massachusetts and others, noting a shift from 80 million last year to about 65 million proposed this year. They claim Iowa and similar states would gain under the new method.
