Glenn A. Platner 75 of Clinton, a former Marion resident, died after an automobile accident near Maquoketa. Born Sept 11 near Mt Vernon, he married Marie Stoneking in 1919 and Virgie Durgin in 1968. Survived by wife, a son, four daughters, 15 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, a brother and sister and a stepson. Services set for 11 am Wednesday at Murdoch chapel with burial at Campbell cemetery.

Firemen Extinguish Blaze in Boxcar
Marion firemen fought a railroad box car blaze Sunday morning causing extensive damage to paper fiber contents and minor damage to the car. The fire started after brakes locked, igniting the wooden floor and fiber bales. Five men removed half the fiber bales from the box car. Eta Jota chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will hold a full pledge ritual Tuesday at 7 45 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Terry Welsh. YMCA activity schedule for Marion branch lists sauna at 9 a.m. and various classes through the afternoon.

Dead Lake Forecast Threatens Lake Macbride Health District
Special to The Gazette Iowa City Johnson county health official Lyle Fisher warned Monday that Lake Macbride could become a dead lake if pollution is not reversed. He described forming a sanitary sewer district including Solon Twin View Heights and lake approaches, with a petition by 25 residents and a county supervisors election. Three sewage plans were outlined: merge local sewers for Coralville reservoir disposal, route waste north to fertilize soil, or treat and pump into the Cedar River. About 4 000 people would be affected by the district creation.
