Readied for Friday finals are finalists across divisions with entries from Iowa Indiana Nebraska Michigan South Dakota Illinois Minnesota Wisconsin and Missouri. 1957 champions listed Elmo Redding in the one row and Al Powers in the one row lawn division. Iowa winner Jilovec scored 87.05 points and Blohm 80.415 of 100 in Thursday’s judging.

A Milwaukee mother and her three young children died in a Wednesday night crash near Waukesha Wisconsin. Leonard Wagner age 30, the father, and Lloyd Schank 20, driver of the other car, were reported in fair condition.

A $1,000 damage suit filed Wednesday stems from a Nov 9 1957 car pedestrian accident. Plaintiff is Robert J. Anderson whose daughter Raejean was struck by a car driven by B M Christensen and owned by Jo Ellen Christensen, both named defendants.

Loveless argues a one cent sales tax will not relieve property taxes and questions the plan to use 30 million dollars twice. He says Republicans would replace the personal income tax with school aid and tax relief, leaving property owners with little relief. He cites Iowa revenue growth and claims his veto saved millions while revenue still exceeds expenditures.
Frank J. Vondracek 77 a Cedar Rapids resident for 50 years died in a nursing home after a long illness. Born July 18 1891 near Swisher he was married to Anna Tomas. He worked as a hardware salesman then owned the Tinker Shop for 15 years. Surviving are his sister two daughters and two brothers. Services Friday at Brosh chapel with burial in Czech National.
Murray argues against out of state ownership claims and supports property tax relief. He cites county records showing under 4 percent Iowa farmland owned by nonresidents and contends tenants share in relief through taxes on livestock and machinery. He praises a 2 cent sales tax past in the 1930s for funding homestead exemptions and school aid and notes perceived campaign inconsistencies by Loveless. Cedar Rapids is highlighted as his birthplace.
Tickets remain for a $10 dinner where Sen. John Kennedy will speak at the Memorial Coliseum Friday at 6 30 p m. Tickets are sold at Democratic headquarters from candidates or at the door.
Er win J. Wasta asked the city for commercial zoning of a service station at the northeast corner of Center Point road and 6 avenue NE. The petition did not state whether B-1 neighborhood shopping or B-2 general commercial zoning is sought. The proposal will be referred to the City Plan Commission after the zoning type is clarified.
Frank Lorenc 214 Twenty first ave SW died Thursday after a lingering illness. Born July 27 1879 in Kunovice Czechoslovakia he came to the U S in 1904. Survived by wife Anna two sons Frank and Mathew Esther Snyder and two brothers Fred and Peter. Services at Janeba's Saturday at 2 with burial in Czech National. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Friday.
Charles Peter Cromes 68 of Center Point road NE died Thursday. Born Danville Pa November 10 1889 he lived in Cedar Rapids ten years and worked as a laborer at Coe College. Survived by sister Mrs J Wilson Pooler and a brother in Albuquerque N M Services Friday at 2 at Calvary Baptist with Rev Don L Andersen. body to be moved to Montoursville Pa for burial. Friends may call after 10 am Friday.
Lorie K. Wilson infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Wilson of route 3 died in a Cedar Rapids hospital on Wednesday. Survived by parents and sister Sheila. Private services were held in Turner's with cremation committal.
Funeral services for Maude Lou Engledow will be held at Turner's at 1 30 PM Friday with Reverend Reuben J. Tjaden officiating. Burial follows at Cedar Memorial. Friends may call at the chapel prior to services.
Funeral services for Miss Gertrude Denlinger will be held at Turner's at 3 30 Friday by Rector D A Loferski. Burial will be in Oak Hill.
Justice Department records show Iowa GOP governor candidate Dr. William G. Murray received 53 633 from the federal government over six years for appraising Indian lands. He began the work under the Truman administration and has held four contracts, the department says.
Elliott Roosevelt, son of Franklin D. Roosevelt, is named the new Democratic chairman of Rio Blanco County Colorado. He runs a ranch and steps into a political leadership role in Meeker.

The Cedar Rapids city council will open bids on three new swimming pools at Noelridge, Jones, and Bever parks on November 6. Plans total 425000 dollars and follow a bond issue approved July 14. Construction may start this fall if weather allows. completion target is June 15, subject to weather and other factors.
