State correctional workers protest staffing levels
AFSCME members rallied outside Fort Madison to demand more prison staff and insist the legislature directed understaffing be corrected. They cited inmate assaults on staff and nurses, saying low staffing endangers workers and inmates. Gov. Branstad aides disputed union claims, citing prior pay raises and budget issues. Union vows more rallies across Iowa correctional facilities.
