The Johnson County Department of Public Health has not raised fees or staff since February, so inspections remain at about once a year instead of the required two to three. State officials accept the reduced frequency, citing ongoing budget constraints and no legislative progress on fee increases. Authorities can close restaurants not addressing identified Food and Drug Administration risks, and officials expect a fee bill to be reintroduced next session.
