Henry Hamer, 45, of 129 Third Street SW, jailed Tuesday on a drunk driving charge from a collision with Emil Hobel’s car on Third Avenue SW. Hobel said Hamer was slumped at the wheel. a chemical test showed 3.4 mg/mL of alcohol.

In Rantoul Illinois two air corps reserve officers died Tuesday when their plane crashed. The victims were identified as reserve officers and the crash is under investigation by the military authorities. No further details on the aircraft or cause were released.
On the willkie train Wendell L Willkie renewed his attack on Roosevelt and said a housing shortage would delay the draft an inexcusable failure to act. He urged quicker defense measures and warned of mounting delays for military mobilization.
Wendell L. Willkie appears tonight from Buffalo on the NBC Red network WELW WHO and WMAQ will air the program from 9 30 to 10 15 pm Eastern time. The nominee will take questions for 30 minutes then discuss selective service and the draft. He cites housing shortages delaying new soldiers and calls the situation inexcusable.
Washington AP report notes Charles A Lindbergh criticizing leaders for broken promises and warning the country is headed toward political failure and war. The Mutual Broadcasting System will air Lindbergh's remarks followed by Cal Donovan's rebuttal on Tuesday night.
In a radio address Lindbergh warned that America's future hinges on choosing leaders who promise honesty and clear direction toward strength and peace. He did not name Wendell Willkie or Franklin Roosevelt. Mutual Broadcasting Co says the speech was a public service on national defense.

President Roosevelt will deliver a seven minute radio address on compulsory military training Wednesday morning. The remarks, tied to the registration of an estimated 16 404 000 men born in 1924 and earlier, will be carried by the four major radio networks at 7 am Iowa time.
County Auditor Robert M Vesely urged 13 000 Linn County men aged 21 to 35 to register early Wednesday at 48 precincts to avoid long waits. Registrations also at Coe and Cornell colleges and for St Luke's and Mercy Hospital workers. Nationwide, about 375 000 Iowa men and 16 000 000 nationwide expected to register as the first peacetime military draft system opens.

Senator Hiram Johnson of California will oppose Roosevelt’s third term and back Wendell Willkie in a nationwide radio broadcast Friday evening. The speech will air from Washington on CBS from 9 to 9 30 p m local time and will be announced by the Republican national headquarters.
