In Nashville a BMI banquet linked to the Grand Ole Opry week honored 80 writers and 47 publishers for 84 songs. John Hartford won the most performed country song for Gentle on My Mind, as Glenn Campbell helped spotlight the tune earlier. Billy Sherrill led with seven hits while Merle Haggard earned six awards for songs like Okie From Muskogee and Fighting Side of Me.

Algona Youngster Becomes Hollywood Breakthrough

From Algona Iowa comes 23 year old Robert Pratt a former duck hunting guide who rose to acting after college detours and summer Shakespeare. Pratt landed a Universal pilot that led to TV roles on The Name of the Game The Senator and Matt Lincoln and just finished a lead in Peter Fonda’s The Hired Hand marking a fast rise in Hollywood.
