Mayor Backs Water Main Loan Vote After Council Clash

At a special council session and a subsequent public meeting, Mayor W. H. Stepanek joined the council to send a federal Des Moines loan and grant application for water main extensions. He had opposed the move earlier, citing other public works projects, but said delays could jeopardize funds for a garbage incinerator. The $150,000 project would be funded by a bond issue approved by voters and retired from water revenue.
