Fly ash dump on hold in Cedar Rapids area zoning case
Cedar Rapids Board of Adjustment tabled action on a proposed landfill for processed coal combustion residue after a two hour meeting. A conditional use permit is needed and the site, owned by William Hennessey, lies in agricultural zoning near Eastman Kodak plant with county road Honey Grove Road as access. Traffic dust health and groundwater concerns drew about 75 objectors led by attorney Wally Taylor. The plan was recommended for approval by the Planning Commission with six conditions, while staff recommended denial.
