Phillip A. Schmit, 61, longtime Ossian funeral director and owner of Schmitts funeral home, died Wednesday. He also owned Schmitz furniture, belonged to St. Francis De Sales church and rosary society, Ossian Knights of Columbus 2073, and held several past offices. He was active in Ossian general assembly, fourth degree, and affiliated with local funeral director and mortuary groups.

Two Held on Forgery Charge in Cedar Rapids Case
Linda A. Lewis 22 of Hoxie Ark and Charles Leonard 51 of Fayetteville N C were arrested in Cedar Rapids Wednesday over a forged $450 check. Lewis held on $5000 bond for uttering a forged instrument Leonard held on $5000 bond on a conspiracy charge. Patice said they were arrested after Lewis cashed the check at a drive in bank.
