Bright UFO Spotted by Oelwein Residents and Police
At about 4 am Tuesday two Oelwein police officers Assistant Police Chief Jack Stolfus and Patrolman Charles Derringer along with three other witnesses reported seeing a large very bright unidentified flying object near the city. It appeared blue radiating rays and moved northeast before vanishing after about twenty minutes. Witnesses include Ron Munter from Strawberry Point and Earl Schmidt farming west of Oelwein who described pinkish red hues and star-like brightness.

Special to The Gazette Toledo jury verdict favors Cordis Speas real estate business against Albert and Edith Bru of rural Montour for 1015 dollars over a 1965 Oelwein accident. Hartley of rural Oelwein filed a 36900 suit in West Union district court. Speas claimed he earned a buyer for the Brus and that Hartley acted without authorization.

KEOKUK The funeral directors of Lee county told the county board of supervisors they will discontinue ambulance service in the county starting November 1. They had earlier said they would delay until January 1, but cited federal regulations and high costs as the reason for ending the service.

Fear Contractor Drowned in Creek at Black Hawk
Waterloo emergency crews resumed search for Marion Ahrenholz a Cedar Falls man in his 40s missing after a dredging operation on Black Hawk creek. The worker vanished during the job with water depths reported from 30 to 40 feet and another man reached shore on a pipe connecting gear to the river bank. The Cedar River outlet lies downstream from the scene.
