ConnectCR project to begin soon in Cedar Rapids big public private plan
Cedar Rapids moves toward its largest public private partnership with ConnectCR to redevelop Cedar Lake and build an Alliant Energy LightLine pedestrian bridge linking Czech Village and New Bohemia. Funding totals 20 million dollars from private donors Hall Perrine Foundation the city and state agency. Construction of the lake trail and amenities will start next year with bids out this fall.

Waterloo dentist convicted in April awaits final board action
Payman Bayati a Waterloo dentist, convicted in April of public intoxication after a root canal at Anamosa State Penitentiary, still awaits final disciplinary action from the Iowa Dental Board. The board previously charged him with harmful practice and suspended him on an emergency basis. a January hearing was canceled and no new date set. Bayati faced eight months of probation after a 2024 trial noting intoxication and impaired conduct during the Dec. 7 incident.

Three Young Children Die In DeWitt Collision
A Clinton County crash on U S Highway 30 in De Witt killed three children under five. The SUV carrying six occupants, including four children, was rear struck by a Dodge flatbed truck. None of the children wore seat restraints. two died at the scene and a third died at UI Hospitals and Clinics.
