Lawmakers open to more school spending in Iowa
Des Moines top legislators say Gov Branstads push for higher education funding will pressure a budget constrained by deficits. Gronstal cites a $600 million reserve and a projected $400 million year end surplus while noting no tax hikes. Paulsen warns next year remains tight but supports considering increased school funding. Dvorsky rejects shifting funds from other education areas and urges careful use of current taxes.
