State Executive Council To Pick Lawyer For Defense
Des Moines Iowa Gov Harold Hughes says the executive council will select outside counsel to defend the 1967 service tax law. The constitutionality challenge is in Scott county district court Davenport with a hearing set for Friday before Judge Nathan Grant. Hughes opposes Attorney General Richard Turner's suggestion that the governor and tax commission jointly choose the attorney, calling it an unconstitutional delegation of executive council authority.

Elkader Woman Killed in Crash
Elkader Mrs. William Roethler, 47, died and her husband was injured in a two car crash at Badger Corner in Webster County Saturday. The Roethlers’ car collided with a vehicle driven by Ronald Giesler of Humboldt. Both men were hospitalized in Fort Dodge. Services for Mrs. Roethler set for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Five young out-of-state residents held on narcotics charges
Five young people from Maryland California Virginia and Virginia Beach were arrested on a rural road Saturday for illegal possession of marijuana. Freshly cut marijuana was found in a top carrier and five pillow cases in the station wagon. Authorities identified the group as Kenneth Overstreet 18 Richard Conley 20 Mark Mazzeo 19 Murray Hoeckel 20 and Linda Smith 21 all held for preliminary hearings.
