A state witness said Kane and Osgood drove to Marion after a brief site discussion and later returned to the scene following a talk with Marion police chief Leighton Ford.
Glenn L. McCombs, 25, of South English, was sentenced to a year in Anamosa reformatory for passing a false check and his three prior checks under twenty dollars. Judge Floyd Philbrick suspended the term on restitution. McCombs pled innocent at arraignment but later pled guilty to the $15 check used to pay for a $10.95 sports jacket at Syndicate Clothing Company on Sept. 8.
Daniel W. Hampton died August 19 and his will named executor Charles E. Hodgin and five children Lara Morris Alfred Earl Floyd and F Dean Hampton as beneficiaries. Also admitted to probate was Frank J. Horak who died January 10 1947 Lamir Horak named administrator with will annexed with bond set at 500 his wife had died June 27 the prior year.
Joseph Kloubeck aged 40 pleaded guilty Saturday to desertion and abandonment of his three minor children. Judge G K Thompson imposed a six month suspended sentence.
Henry C. Bennett files suit against Bernadetta and Harry C. Bennett seeking 31500 plus foreclosure lien on real estate claiming a down payment loan made Oct 2 1947 and that the defendants failed to repay within the year.

Mrs. James Groves, 78, longtime Cedar Rapids resident, died at 2 30 p.m. Friday at her son Ross Groves's home. She was married Dec 20 1892 in Bentonsport Ia and was a member of First Christian church. Surviving are her husband, son, three sisters and several nieces and nephews. Services Monday at 2 p.m. in the Barta Hesser chapel with burial in Cedar Memorial cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday.
Alexander B Miller 84 a Cedar Rapids resident for 82 years died Saturday after a long illness. Survived by daughter Mrs Joe V Zastera Cedar Rapids son Fred Miller Chicago brother Alfred Wisconsin and four sisters Mrs Jessie Rhodes Mrs Nina Weisbard Mrs Mabel Short and Mrs Millie Burlingham five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services 1:30 p.m. Tuesday Beatty chapel burial Linwood Cemetery friends may call at the chapel.

Maley, born April 5, 1893 in Manchester Ia, studied at Dubuque College and St Louis University. He served as first assistant attorney general from 1935 to 1937 and later returned to private practice handling liquor and gambling cases and defending public officials in corruption matters.
Federal narcotics agents arrested five men in Chicago and Springfield in a raid aimed at a $50,000 ring selling drugs to Illinois high school and college students. One suspect was a former Harry James drummer, Michael Scrima, 31, allegedly selling narcotics while performing with a dance band.
