Matches suspected as cause of Cedar Rapids mattress fire
A child playing with matches is the suspected cause of a mattress fire at 1507 Fourth Ave SE Cedar Rapids on Tuesday. Firefighters found smoke throughout, confined the blaze to a second floor mattress, and no injuries were reported. Darrell Lathrop, 5, told his stepfather of the fire after racing down the stairs.

DeSantiago Trial Moved to Marengo in Iowa City
Ramon DeSantiago, 18, of Council Bluffs, charged with attempted murder in the Aug 3 shooting of John Slager, will have his jury trial set for Oct 27 in Marengo after a Johnson County judge granted the defense request for a venue change citing extensive pretrial publicity. Slager, shot in the head downtown, is recovering in a Waterloo hospital and was released from University Hospitals on Sept 15.

Judge allows questions on sexual history in Osanka case
In Linn County, Judge William Eads allowed prosecutors to question potential witnesses about their sexual history in the case of Louann Grebner versus Frank Osanka.
